Jonathan holds a Bachelors Degree from Oberlin College, a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California, a teaching credential from the UCLA School of Education, nnd a College Counseling Certificate from UC San Diego. He is fully credentialed as a Certified Educational Planner (CEP), and every year his students are admitted to nearly two hundred different colleges and universities.

Jonathan has over 25 years educational experience as an Advanced Placement level history teacher and 15 years of concurrent experience as a college counselor. He was previously the Director of College Counseling at the Idyllwild Arts Academy and is currently College Counselor at the Fairmont Preparatory Academy in Anaheim, California where he works with a large population of students from China. He is a member of NACAC, WACAC, and IECA, and he presented a paper at the recent Western Association of College Admission Counselors (WACAC) annual conference on College Counseling for International Students.

Dr. Barry Sysler is Founder and President of Academic Directions, an educational consultancy located in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Educational Planner considered to be an expert on the college selection process. He holds a Ph.D. from Temple University. Annually, Dr. Sysler conducts a series of workshops for parents of high school students to educate them about the college admissions process and how to qualify for financial aid and merit scholarship packages. In his speaking engagements he has addressed topics such as the Nine Best-Kept Secrets of the College Funding System; How To Increase Your Eligibility for Financial Aid; How To Reduce Out-of-Pocket Expenses for Your Child’s College; How To Pick Colleges With the Best Financial Aid Packages and How To Send Your Child to the College of their Choice Regardless of Your Family Income.

To provide the best possible service to his students, Dr. Sysler attends regional and national conferences on college admissions. He continually travels throughout the United States visiting colleges and meeting with Admissions Directors so that he can stay current with admissions trends and campus scholarship programs. Certified by the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners, he is a long standing member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC), and the Higher Education Counselors Association (HECA).
